About the Role

Nium is seeking a Director - Business Development, Mexico to win new clients and grow revenue across Nium’s payment solutions in Mexico and other Spanish-speaking markets. This role offers the opportunity to build on a strong Mexican market presence and develop business across the wider region.

You will target enterprises in Travel, Banking, Digital Assets, and B2B and B2C Fintech Platforms. Travel and card issuing are important areas of emphasis within a broader mandate spanning cross-border payouts, card issuing, and other relevant Nium products and services.

This is a hands-on, revenue-generating role with ownership of the full sales cycle, from prospecting and discovery through negotiation, launch, and expansion. You will combine local market knowledge and client relationships with close collaboration across Nium’s Solutions Partners, Product, Compliance, Legal, and implementation teams.

Candidates with a demonstrated record of broader commercial leadership and strategic account ownership may be considered at the Senior Director level.

What You'll Do

  • Win new business: Build and execute a commercial plan for Mexico and other Spanish-speaking markets, with accountability for new client acquisition, revenue growth, and sales targets.
  • Develop payment solutions: Understand clients’ end-to-end payment flows and position Nium’s issuing and payout capabilities together where relevant, addressing needs such as travel and supplier payments, card programs, and international disbursements.
  • Build a targeted pipeline: Identify and engage enterprise prospects in Travel, Banking, Digital Assets, and B2B and B2C Fintech Platforms across Mexico and other Spanish-speaking markets.
  • Own the full sales cycle: Lead discovery, qualification, solution development, proposals, commercial negotiations, and closing.
  • Build senior relationships: Establish trusted relationships with executives and decision-makers across payments, treasury, product, finance, and operations.
  • Collaborate on solutions: Work with Solutions Partners and internal stakeholders to assess client requirements, delivery feasibility, economics, and compliance considerations.
  • Drive client activation: Maintain commercial ownership through implementation, helping resolve blockers and supporting launch, adoption, and transaction growth.
  • Shape the market approach: Bring client feedback and competitive insights into Nium’s positioning and go-to-market strategy for Mexico and other Spanish-speaking markets.
  • Maintain sales discipline: Keep accurate pipeline records, forecasts, and account plans, and represent Nium at relevant client meetings and industry events.

What You'll Bring

  • 8+ years of experience in business development or enterprise sales within payments, fintech, or financial services, with a proven record of winning new business.
  • An established network of relevant buyers and industry contacts in Mexico, with the ability to build new relationships independently.
  • A strong understanding of the issuing ecosystem and the ability to discuss card program requirements, commercial models, and implementation considerations with clients.
  • Cross-border payments and payouts experience is strongly preferred, particularly selling to businesses with international payment needs.
  • Demonstrated success owning revenue targets and closing complex B2B deals involving multiple stakeholders.
  • The ability to understand client payment flows and build a clear business case around commercial value, economics, and operational outcomes.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience working through commercial, legal, compliance, and implementation requirements.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English, with strong written communication and presentation skills in both languages.
  • Strong judgment, resilience, and the ability to operate independently while collaborating across teams and regions.
  • Willingness to travel within Mexico and other Spanish-speaking markets, and internationally as needed for client meetings and industry events.

Additional Experience We Value

  • Direct commercial experience selling card issuing solutions, such as issuing processing, virtual cards, or card program infrastructure.
  • Experience selling API-based payment infrastructure or embedded financial services.
  • Experience with B2B card use cases, including supplier payments, travel payments, or expense management.
  • Experience working with regulated financial institutions and navigating compliance considerations during the sales process.
  • Experience developing new business in other Spanish-speaking markets or introducing payment solutions across Latin America.

Senior Director Consideration

At the Senior Director level, we expect demonstrated experience defining and executing a commercial strategy for a market or customer segment, winning large strategic accounts, and building executive relationships that generate sustained revenue growth.
